Musical Teddy Bears

Ever since the day when the first teddy bear was put in the market, it has become children's best friend no matter where they are in the world. They are cuddly, fuzzy, and sweet. Sometimes they even became the child’s best friend. At the turn of the century, many children spent lots of time with their nannies rather than going to play groups and pre-school as they do today. Because they didn’t have lots of other children around, the teddy bear brought great comfort. Even when children had several siblings, the teddy bear was still a best friend and the perfect toy to cuddly before going to sleep.

Since the start, music has been connected with teddy bears. Undoubtedly the song which everyone remembers from childhood is the teddy bears picnic, the music which was written by American composer John Bratton in 1907 and was originally called the Teddy Bear Two Step. The lyrics were written in 1933 by Irishman Jimmy Kennedy and have delighted children ever since.

During these modern times, a lot of teddy bears play such music like baby songs and lullabies. To play the music, the child or adult had to wind a switch until the teddy started to play its sweet music. Small children probably asked for the music over and over again. Even though the children never got tired of the same old song, many parents heard the music until they were ready to scream. They probably had visions of tossing the bear in the closest waste basket but never could because it would break their hearts. They simply put up with the music until the switch wore out and played no more.

Musical teddy bears are well-loved by small babies. The soft music the teddy bears play lulls the baby to sleep and comforts him when he cries. The music is just the right sound to help a baby learn to play by himself. Mr. Teddy Bear becomes his best friend and his music is the first song the child can sing.

After batteries were invented, playing musical teddy bears became much more simpler. All the child or parent had to do is squeeze some part of the teddy bear’s body and the music started playing. Parents were very happy that they no longer were required to wind the switch over and over again.

For many kids, musical teddy bears are enjoyable, comforting and calming. Children everywhere played with these teddy bears and love their beautiful melodies.
